40th Annual Smoky Hill Art

An exhibition of works
selected from the Hays Arts Council’s annual state-wide,
juried fine art competition. As selected by Jan
Schall, curator of the modern and contemporary art
collections of the Nelson-Atkins Museum, this exhibition
of original works includes paintings, prints, drawings,
photographs, sculpture and ceramics by artists
throughout the state of Kansas.
JUROR
Jan Schall is the Sanders Sosland
Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the
Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City. She
holds a Ph.D. in Art History from the University of
Texas and an M.A, in Art History and Archaeology from
Washington University in St. Louis. She curated
the 2000 three-part NEA-supported millennium exhibition
Tempus-Fugit: Time Flies and produced its catalog
and award-winning website. More recently she co-curated
a five-part exhibition of New Media Projects, has
overseen the renovation and reinstallation of the
Museum's Kansas City Sculpture Park, is working on a
catalogue of the collection and maintains an active
teaching schedule.
AWARDS
At the juror’s
discretion, a total of $2,000 in cash prizes will be
awarded. The HAC also promotes a purchase award program
among its patrons.
