This show is dedicated to Ann Jeter
HAC Founder, Patron, and Friend

Ann Jeter was a passionate arts advocate and patron who, for more than 50 years, actively supported and promoted the arts in her own community and across the state.

Ann helped found the Hays Arts Council and the Association of Community Arts Agencies of Kansas (ACAAK), proudly serving on the board of directors for both organizations, with a tenure as president for each.    She also served on the board of the Mid-America Arts Alliance and was appointed to the Kansas Arts Commission by Governor Carlin in 1980, where she served four years, with one as Chairman.  Her involvement in the arts served other organizations as well.  She was a member of the board of advisors to the KU School of the Fine Arts and the steering committee for the Lied Center of Kansas.

Ann had many other accomplishments in culture and the arts. As chairman of the Interior Design Committee of Hadley Regional Medical Center, she helped introduce to Western Kansas the concept of Institutional Patron of the Visual Arts. Today the Hadley Foundation Art Collection at Hays Medical Center is the largest collection of original art in the Western half of Kansas. Along with her husband, Norman Jeter, she received the 1997 Governor’s Arts Award for her outstanding contribution to the art community, presented by the Honorable Bill Graves, Governor of Kansas, and the Kansas Arts Commission.

Ann and Norman were Purchase Patrons of the Smoky Hill Art Exhibition each of the previous 42 years.  This year, the 43rd Annual Smoky Hill Art Exhibition, will be the first time in its history they are not included on that distinguished roster of community arts patrons.   Their legacy, however, will continue to serve and define the arts in our community and region for many years to come.

The Hays Arts Council proudly dedicates the 2012 Spring Gallery Walk and Smoky Hill Art Exhibition to the memory of our friend, Ann Jeter.
